Numerical treatment of the energy equation in compressible flows simulations

We analyze the conservation properties of various discretizations system compressible Euler equations for shock-free flows, with special focus on treatment energy equation and induced discrete other thermodynamic quantities. The analysis is conducted both theoretically numerically considers two important factors characterizing formulations, namely choice splitting used in discretization convective terms. analyzed are total internal energy, enthalpy, pressure, speed sound entropy. In all cases examined terms made locally conservative kinetic-energy preserving schemes. Some relations between formulations highlighted performances schemes assessed by considering widely test cases. Together some popular from literature, also new potentially useful ones analyzed.
